Bangladesh registers 2,198 new cases, 36 deaths

Dhaka, Dec 7 (UNI) With the detection of 2,198 new COVID-19 cases, the total tally in the country surged to 4,79,743.
The country also witnessed 36 deaths in the last 24 hours, mounting the death toll to 6,874.
In the last 24 hours, 14,369 samples were examined and out of them 2,198 got positive results for the virus. Apart from, 2,663 more recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 398,623, Directorate General of Health Services said in a statement on Monday.
Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.
The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year. The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 1,542,910 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
As many as 67,457,650 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 46,662,297 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
